Dakota Adventure Supply

I had the pleasure of collaborating with the folks at Dakota Adventure Supply to help tell their origin story. Dakota Adventure Supply crafts high quality outdoor gear in South Dakota. More impressive is their mission to foster and promote camaraderie in adventure. Focusing on their mission is what really sets them apart from just selling heirloom quality gear. That said, their mission neither detracts from their quality nor does their pursuit of quality detract from their mission. It’s a solid combination that should propel them into a successful future.

My objective was to try and capture that spirit of camaraderie and quality at its earliest stages. The production of this story took place while they had barely passed their six month of existence. Additionally I wanted to try and convey the friendship between Jeff & Paxton that really underscores their whole business endeavor. To achieve that I conducted the interview in tandem opting to to operate the camera handheld. This not only allowed them to interact with each other during our conversation but also offered a level of informality that speaks well to their personalities.

Much like their gear being stitched together with an assemblage of quality materials I wanted to source a number of media types into one cohesive piece. Thus, footage ranges from 16mm film, phone footage, archival photographs and high quality digital acquisition. I believe this eclectic mix of past and present builds a solid story that acts both as a solid marketing tool and a snapshot of their inception and early growth that captures their identity.

Keep your eyes open for future work with Dakota Adventure Supply in the coming months.
